I'm often asked about my writing, my ideas, and my literary influences. Here you'll find the answers to the most commonly asked questions. If you have further questions feel free to contact me here. Where did you get the idea for your novel Return the Heart?
This is always such a hard question to answer. When I first starting writing the novel, the main character, Lilly, was clearly seen on the first page. And the rest of the story just developed on its' own. (That's the easy answer.) In reality, however, I think Return the Heart is a product of my love of Russian literature and history coupled with my love for children (of all ages). The two just formed together creating the plot with all the twists and turns.
Why did you start writing?
I originally started writing for my children. I wanted them to have a story that I wrote for them, so I wrote Return the Heart. It was a labor of love and they are the reason I pursued having my work published.
Will there be more books to follow Return the Heart?
Yes, two books will follow Return the Heart. The second book is Shield the Heart, and will be released in the fall of 2011. The third book is titled Pierce the Heart and will be out in 2012.
Who are your literary influences?
Some of my favorite authors are Leo Tolstoy, Nikolai Gogol, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Corrie ten Boom, Chaim Potok, and Samuel Lamb. I also like a ton of young adult authors, too.
What else do you like to do in addition to writing?
I love to cook. I also enjoy being at the beach with my family. And then there's reading... I can't say enough about the joy of a good book. I wish I could say I did something more exciting, like skydiving or roller derby, but that's not true. Oh, I know - I'd love to go backpacking through Europe someday. I would also love to travel to Russia, India, and about a dozen other countries. But in the meantime, I'll continue writing. It seems to fulfill my need for adventure quite well.
